Musical Void Series
From my fixations on the unpredictability and freedom of space, I started to explore my musical knowledge for the presence of endless potential of creativity within the music.
Musical Void:
31.5”x 47.2”
Acrylic paint
I approached this painting to express my own musical understanding within instruments, such as piano, saxophone, violin, and the drum kit; colliding and intertwining as one. Music theory binds all music together, no matter the instrument or sound. The background serves as an endless vortex that stirs the combination of music together, tying it together like a knot. The dynamic and vibrant colors communicate with each other, almost like a composition of a song that no one has heard of, harmonizing instantly. The silver ring represents me, as the traveler who explores this “Musical Void,” being able to glide within the areas I want to enjoy, explore, and expand in.
Plaga
39.4”x 31.5”
Spray paint, Acrylic paint
This work follows the first painting ‘Musical Void’, showing the development in my artistic approach as ‘Musical Void’ is more delicate compared to ‘Plaga’; additionally abstract, playful, and alive. The futuristic expression of sequential shutter speed movements of the drums and drumsticks creates movement and dynamics within the painting, forming enemata. This reflects upon my experiences as a musician. I begin to explore the void, eliminating indecisive thoughts, and going beyond the stage of unsureness. I started to experiment with various melodies and tunes, filled with different emotions as I played. ‘Plaga’ shows the juxtaposition of two pieces, one intricate and the other careless. This piece is simply developed through the base layer of the green background seen on the edges, being completely covered with vibrancy, juxtaposing each other. I decided to leave areas that show depth within layers of different compositions to show the beginning and end, like a song or interlude.
